Get ready for a fun-filled adventure as the SA Museum comes alive with hands-on activities and exciting things to explore!

 

Brainy Games (Monday 13 to Friday 17 April)

Ever wondered about your amazing brain and how it helps you to understand the world? Ever wanted to see what a research scientist does? Adelaide University School of Psychology is at the South Australian Museum these school holidays with fun, interactive games that are part of their scientific research.

Children and adults are invited to play games which cover a wide range of topics including understanding how we use logic to think, how we show our emotions, how we recognise other people (even when they look different), and how we use someone’s appearance to make decisions about them.

Brainy Games will be in the Level 2 Learning Space, 10am to 3:30pm, from Monday 13 to Friday 17 April.

Curiosity Lab: Build-a-Bug with Dr Shasta (Tuesday 21 April)

Learn all about insects with the Museum's very own Entomologist, Dr Shasta Henry. In this 90-minute workshop, kids will discover the basics of insect anatomy, design and build their own insect friend to take home, and go on an insect hunt through the Museum's South Australian Biodiversity Gallery to put their new identification skills to the test.

This workshop is for children aged 6-10 years. Parental supervision is required. Booking is essential.

Curiosity Lab: Intro to Insect Pinning (Thursday 23 April)

Join Dr Shasta Henry for a hands-on introduction to the fascinating world of insect science and discover what it’s like to care for a museum insect collection in this two-hour workshop. Junior Entomologists will get a crash course in insect identification before heading back to the classroom to examine a scientific sample of insects and learning the art of insect setting. Each participant will get to take home their pinned insect in a small display box.

This workshop is for children aged 10-15 years. Parental supervision is optional. Booking is essential.

South Australian Museum Discovery Centre

The Discovery Centre is a special place for people of all ages to feed their curiosity with endless wonders to discover – like insects, fossils, meteorites and even a beehive. Located on Level 1 of the Museum, the Discovery Centre is open to the public from 10:30am to 2:30pm on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
