Have you ever wondered what an entomologist does? Join Dr Shasta Henry for a hands-on introduction to the fascinating world of insect science and discover what it’s like to care for a museum insect collection in this two-hour workshop.
Beginning with a crash course in insect identification and a guided tour of the Biodiversity Gallery, you’ll sharpen your observation skills and learn how scientists recognise different species. Junior Entomologists will then head back to the classroom to examine a scientific sample of insects and learn the art of insect setting, the technique used by museums to prepare specimens for research and display.
Along the way, you’ll discover how entomologists study insects and how museum collections support scientific research and new discoveries.
Each participant will get to take home their pinned insect in a small display box.
Booking is essential.
