Medieval Music and Mead at the Museum

The museum will host a rare late-night opening of its Treasures of the Viking Age: the Galloway Hoard exhibition on Friday 6 June.

The event, themed Music and Mead, will be open 5pm-8pm in the Museum’s foyer.

Festivities include musical entertainment from harpist and singer Siobhan Owen, and lutenist James Logan.

You’ll also be able to enjoy a soothing mug or two of mead, from South Australia’s own Thistle Meadery.

The Museum’s Café and Gift Shop will be open along with World Mammals Gallery on the Museum’s ground floor.

Music and Mead is part of the Museum’s winter Viking Festival, which will culminate in the two-day VikingFest, within the Museum’s grounds on the weekend of 28-29 June.

VikingFest will feature a Viking-age market, artisans, combat displays, axe throwing, a licensed tavern and even a Viking longship.

There will even be a medieval stock to try for size, for those willing to stick their neck out.

The Museum will host two more Friday night events leading up to VikingFest; Winter Weaving and Leather Working on 13 June, and the Galloway Jewellery Jam featuring Jam Factory Jewellers on 20 June.

All events are free entry, and add to an epic line-up in Adelaide this winter. You can plan your season of fun with Experience Adelaide.

Tickets to the Treasure of the Viking Age: the Galloway Hoard exhibition are $25. Concessions are available.
